Library Volunteers

The library has volunteer opportunities on a regular basis or for special projects. These opportunities include shelf reading, book mending, and book sale donation sorting. Please email Michelle Royer or call her 860-665-8707 to find out more information.

Teen Volunteer Network

The Teen Volunteer Network offers teens the opportunity to volunteer at the library, assisting librarians with library programming. Teens who are interested can fill out a Teen Volunteer Network application and will be contacted when teen volunteers are needed for programming. It is a great way for teens to do community service hours as part of school requirements. Teens must be age 14 and up. For more information, please email Head of Community Services Michelle Royer  or call her at 860-665-8707 OR email Teen Librarian Sarah Riordan or call her at 860-665-8704.

 Join the Friends

Join the Friends of the Library, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that does fundraising and advocacy for the library. Joining and volunteering for the Friends is another great way to support the library.

Book Sales

The Friends of the Library have two book sales a year, one in the spring and one in the fall, to raise money for the library. Volunteers are needed throughout the year to sort book donations and/or to work the book sale weekends. If you are interested please email Head of Community Services, Michelle Royer or call her at 860-665-8707.

Newington Library 5K Challenge road race

The Newington Library 5K Challenge road race, held on the 3rd Sunday in May, is an annual library fundraiser presented by the Library Board of Trustees. All proceeds from the race benefit the library. This event needs volunteers for the race committee, race day, and to sponsor the race. Planning for the race begins in January and concludes on race day. If you are interested, please email Library Director Lisa Masten or call her at 860-665-8724.
