Road Maintenance

The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all Town roads including pot holes, road settlements, drainage issues, storm water basins, and watercourse maintenance.

Road Reconstruction

This process is used on roads which are in poor condition and consists of the complete removal of the bituminous concrete and lower grade base material not suitable for re-use. This process will include the following:

  • Removal of surface and binder courses
  • Drainage improvements such as underdrain installation or new catch basins
  • Catch basin repairs or replacement
  • Grading and compaction of process stone
  • Binder and surface course replacement
  • Curbing and driveway apron replacement

Road Pulverization

This process is used on roads which have a poor road surface but good base materials and will include the following:

  • Bituminous and process stone pulverization and reuse
  • Drainage improvements to the roadway
  • Catch basin repairs or replacement
  • Grading and compaction of pulverized material
  • Binder and surface course replacement
  • Curbing and driveway apron replacement

Mill & Overlay

This process is used on roads which have a good base material and marginal surface course and will include the following:

  • Surface milling of the bituminous concrete
  • Leveling and surface course replacement

Crack Sealing

This process is used on roads which have developed surface cracks. Sealant is applied to the cracks to minimize water intrusion and frost heaves and extends the useful life of the road.
