New at the Library!

The library has purchased New High and Low Tech Assistive Technology for the library. The equipment was made possible through a grant with the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving: Newington Greater Together Community Fund Grant. Items are for in library use. 

High Tech

iPad with Accessibility Screen

iPad Air

The 13-inch model is a bigger screen to increase accessibility needs such as having a larger screen to view. Apple comes with many built in accessibility features.The iPad comes in a pouch that includes a charging cable, power adapter, AUX adapter for headphones, and USB-C charging port.
Loan agreement and ID/Library Card required. In library use only for 2 hours. 

C-Pen

1 C-Pen Reader

The C-Pen Reader has multiple uses. The reader is intended to scan over text and read it out loud. This device can be used with headphones. In addition to assistive learning, the pen can assist persons with dyslexia, low vision, and more. The C-Pen Reader can also scan text in different languages. This device can be borrowed from the reference desk and available for in library use. 

Loan agreement and ID/Library Card required. In library use only for 2 hours. 

Stereo Earphones with Microphone

Earbud Options

AUX connection would work with a patron’s device or borrowed device from the library, such as the C-Pen Reader, iPad, phone, other tablet, computer, etc. 

Earbuds with Microphone 

These earbuds have a microphone option for patrons who may need to speak into their device.

These earbuds come with foam earpads, ideally for comfort.

Low Tech

Anti-Glare LED Page Magnifier

2 Hand Held Magnifiers 

These magnifiers are in the shape of a book, have an anti-glare lens, have 3 different color settings for different needs which includes white LED, warm LED, and mixed lighting mode. This is used to increase text size, but also includes different lighting settings for various vision needs. 

ID/Library Card required. In library use only.

Large Print Keyboard

1 Large Print Keyboard 

This keyboard has large print on each key to help patrons who may have low vision. This is a USB keyboard so it can be easily switched at whichever computer station the patron would like to sit at. It is used as a regular keyboard. The keyboard has all the same functions as a regular keyboard. 

Ask a staff member at the reference desk to use the large print keyboard.
