Shopping

Being easy to get to has made Newington a major regional retail center with annual sales exceeding $1 billion.

The Berlin Turnpike (State Route 15) is the largest retail corridor, with a mix of national, “big box”, regional and locally owned enterprises.

The Town Center is quaint and walkable, dominated by family businesses and services emphasizing a personal connection to customers.  Rents are more affordable and there is ample parking, including the municipal Constitution Square Parking Lot…and it is always free (Newington does not charge for parking anywhere in Town!).  Streetscape projects completed and planned help create an attractive village atmosphere.

Smaller retail pockets serve a variety of neighborhoods, along Main Street, Willard Avenue, Cedar Street, Fenn Road, New Britain Avenue, Kelsey Street and Hartford Road—many perfect for start-ups that are looking for lower rents.

Seasonal events include the summer Farmers Market on the green in the Constitution Square Parking Lot, the Eddy Farm Farmstand/ on Willard Avenue and the Kiwanis “Big K” Flea Market in both the Spring and Fall, also in the Constitution Square Parking Lot.
