The Newington Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce a unique and brand-new giveaway that is sure to make everyone in town happy.“We are hosting a Facebook contest where residents of all ages will have the opportunity to win a free $20 ticket to Outback Steakhouse on Tuesday, February 24th, which will be valid from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Berlin Turnpike location,” said Bill DeMaio, Superintendent of the Newington Parks & Recreation Department. “We have secured a generous sponsor to underwrite the cost of the $20 meal, which includes chicken and steak, a potato, a salad, and a soft drink.”To enter, residents simply need to share why they appreciate Newington Parks & Recreation. Each participant’s name will be entered into a random drawing for a complimentary meal on February 24th. Winners will join the many generous and supportive participants who are helping us raise funds for our Celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and Life. Be In It Extravaganza $30,000 Patriotic Fireworks Show. This is an incredible opportunity. Newington Youth Adult Council Youth Sports Swap!
The Newington Youth Adult Council (YAC) is gearing up for our Youth Sports Swap!
New and gently used items for youth sports can be donated between February 22nd and March 6th at Newington Human Services (200 Garfield Street) or Karma's Closet (27 Garfield Street) during regular business hours.
Families and athletes can shop on Saturday, March 7th from 10am - 5pm. The sale will be held at Karma's Closet.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the YAC Senior Scholarships!

Holiday Closing- Presidents' Day

**Extended Date** - Governor Lamont Extends Severe Cold Weather Protocol
Governor Ned Lamont today announced that due to an updated weather forecast indicating that this stretch of brutally frigid temperatures Connecticut is experiencing will remain for at least another five days, he is ordering the duration of the state’s currently enacted Severe Cold Weather Protocol to remain in effect until noon on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

2025 MS4 Annual Report - Notice
In accordance with the requirements of the CT DEEP General Permit for the Discharge of Stormwater from Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems, residents of the Town of Newington are hereby informed that a draft pdf of the 2025 MS4 Stormwater Annual Report. The report summarizes municipal stormwater compliance activities conducted within the Town of Newington during calendar year 2025, and is curently posted on the Town website for a forty-five day public review and comment period prior to the draft being finalized and submitted electronically to the CT DEEP on or before April 01, 2026.
Residents are hereby encouraged to review the report and submit written comments between February 15, 2026 and March 31, 2026.

Tree Replacement on Garfield St.
As part of the Town’s Garfield Street project the four crab apple trees along the front of the municipal lot will be removed and the new replacement dogwood trees have already been planted. Additional trees will be planted along the other side of the street in the spring to replace the pines previously removed.

Bus Trip Information (Updated 1/5/26)
The SDC Volunteer Bus Trip Committee is pleased to offer the upcoming day trips throughout the state and the New York/Rhode Island/Massachusetts region. This page will be updated with additional trip information as scheduled – so check back often! TRIPS MAY SELL OUT QUICKLY - CALL OR STOP BY FOR AVAILABILITY!
Tickets for bus trips must be purchased in advance at our Volunteer Bus Stop, located at the Senior & Disabled Center Welcome Desk. Bus Stop hours are as follows:
- Mondays and Tuesdays: 10:00 a.m. – Noon
- Thursdays from 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
Not able to visit the Bus Stop during those times? Please call the main office at 860-665-8778 for assistance. Note that all trips are cash or check only; we cannot accept credit cards for payment.
Unless noted, all trips depart and return to the Newington Senior & Disabled Center parking lot.

Overnight Parking Ban
Effective Saturday, November 1st, the Newington Police Department will enforce the overnight parking ban throughout Newington. The ordinance prohibits parking for more than thirty minutes between the hours of 2:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. on any street. This parking ban ensures proper sanding and plowing operations and helps prevent accidents on snowy or icy roads.
Motorists requiring an exception from this ordinance due to an emergency situation are urged to contact the Newington Police Department at 860-666-8445. We urge the continued cooperation of all our residents and motorists.

On 09/09/2025, Lt. Deane addressed the Town Council and gave a presentation on the Local Traffic Authority where he discussed a variety of topics including traffic patterns, collision data, and roadway safety.

Durable Medical Equipment - Available for Residents to Borrow
Did you know that the Senior & Disabled Center has a durable medical equipment lending program? Folks recovering from a recent illness or injury or who find themselves with changing accessibility needs are welcome to borrow equipment such as wheelchairs, shower benches, commodes, walkers and canes for as long as needed to help feel safe and comfortable at home or in the community.
Please call the main office and ask for Teri for more information: 860-665-8778. Availability may vary. We also gratefully accept donations of up-to-date durable medical equipment in good condition.

Route 175 (Cedar St.) Sidewalk Installation
State Project No. 0093-0251– Route 175 (Cedar Street) Sidewalk Installation
Construction of a 5' wide concrete sidewalk along the north side of Route 175 (Cedar Street) from Fenn Rd to Old Farm Dr/Maple Hill Avenue is anticipated to begin in Spring of 2026. Please visit our Town of Newington Engineering page for more information.

The Gift Shop is Open & Accepting Consignment Appointments!
The volunteer-run gift shop offers a variety of items for your gift-giving needs, or, treat yourself to something special! Our current stock includes collectables, glass wear, seasonal and classic home décor, high-quality costume jewelry, purses and wallets, fashion accessories, hand-crafted items and so much more.
The gift shop is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and is cash-only.
We also gratefully accept donations of non-perishable food items for the Newington Human Services Food bank in the gift shop.
Have some items to sell? We are also accepting consignment appointments! Appointments take place each Tuesday in the Center. Please call or stop by the main office to make an appointment and receive consignment info and guidelines.

CrashDocs.Org Accident Report Website
Reports for motor vehicle accidents occurring February 18th, 2024 or later can now be obtained online by visiting www.crashdocs.org and entering the required information. There is a $5.00 fee to obtain a copy of the report which can be paid via the website using either a debit or credit card. Please allow a minimum of up to seven (7) business days following a motor vehicle accident to obtain a copy of the completed report.
Note: Please enter a full 10-digit case number on the website (ex. 2400001234). Hyphenated and/or abbreviated case numbers (ex. 24-1234) will yield negative results.
