1. I’m planning to reconstruct my driveway. Do I need a permit from the town?

Yes, a permit is needed for any work performed within the town’s rights-of-way. Have your contractor call the engineering office for a Contractor Application Packet. The fee for driveways is $25. The Engineering Department phone is: 860-665-8570.

2. Do I need to submit an Inland Wetlands application even if the construction activities are outside of the wetlands?

The Wetlands Commission has established a 100 foot review area outside the wetlands. Any construction activity within this buffer area warrants an application to the Wetlands Commission. For more information, please call 860-665-8570.

4. I have a sump pump in my basement. Can I tie it in to the catch basin in front of my house?

Yes. You must submit a plan from a licensed engineer showing the drainage line you wish to tie in. The plan is submitted for approval to the Town Engineer’s office. After it is approved, you will also be required to execute a drainage agreement which holds the town harmless in the event the town’s drainage system backs up into your property. 5. I am planning on installing a fence around my property. How close to the property line can I place the fence?
