[ARCHIVED] 36th annual Life. Be in it. Extravaganza recap

The Newington Parks and Recreation Department is proud to report another successful event at our 36th annual Life. Be in it. Extravaganza, which began on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 and ended with a spectacular fireworks show on Saturday, July 15th. This year’s event was attended by tens of thousands of people throughout the week of unique activities and events.

This year’s Life. Be in it. Extravaganza featured more activities than ever before, including a fun-filled carnival, which we were able to extend into the following week to help make-up for lost time due to inclement weather, build-your-own helicopter project, stuff-a-bear project, hot air balloon rides, frozen yogurt giveaway, a craft beer tasting, and a full day of fun activities and events. Saturday’s activities included the carnival, the great soccer shootout, three live bands, over 15 food vendors, 85 craft and corporate row vendors, a beer garden, inflatable sports challenge, and more! The event was concluded with the biggest fireworks show in Newington history! We shot off a $25,000 fireworks show this year, one bigger than any show ever shot in Newington! Next year, we will continue to raise the bar by upping the cost of the show again! ALL of the money for the fireworks show is generated through donations (both personal and from local business), sponsorship, and fundraisers! Continue to help make the fireworks show bigger and better by dropping your loose change in a fireworks donation bucket at many of the local businesses, coming in and making a personal donation, or supporting any fundraisers that we host throughout the year!

We'd like to thank EVERYONE who helped make this possible! This includes all of our sponsors and volunteers, the Newington Parks and Recreation and Parks and Grounds staff, Newington Emergency Medical Services, Newington Police Department, Newington Volunteer Fire Department, CERT, and many more! This is a big team effort, organized and coordinated by multiple people and organizations throughout the year and is the perfect example of how we are "Building a Strong Community"!
