Newington Police are looking to host the Fall 2018 Citizens Police Academy for Newington residents and business owners/employees. This free of charge 11 week program will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning after Labor Day from approximately 6pm-9pm at the police department and our off site training facility.
The classes give you a bird's eye view of the different divisions and responsibilities that each officer has. We build a foundation of knowledge in the classroom and then put your skills to work out "in the field." Some of the topics that you will be taught are Criminal and Juvenile Law, Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations (Detective), Emergency Response Team (SWAT), Use of Force, and Accident Reconstruction and DUI.
You will get introduced to our K9 Argos and his handler, Officer Petlik and you will be given the opportunity to be in an officer's shoes (the closest reality that we can give you) and you will need to make spur of the moment decisions regarding motor vehicle stops, suspicious persons and shoot/don't shoot scenarios. If you were ever interested in police work or just curious about your police department and your tax dollars at work, here is your opportunity.
We are looking for committed attendees to attend. If you have to miss a class or two, that's completely understandable. If you know that you won't be able to attend many of the classes, please wait to sign up when your schedule allows. Those that have taken the class can't say enough positive things about it. Let's spend 11 weeks together, so we can answer, "Why do the police.......???????"
We already have several applications on file, looking for more attendees to make this class happen. Fill out an application today. View Here for Academy Application.
