The Assessor's office is currently accepting applications for the Elderly/Disabled circuit breaker relief program through May 15th. Qualifications for this program are as follows:
- You must be 65 years of age by December 31, 2020 OR designated as disabled by the Social Security Administration.
- You must own and occupy your home.
- Maximum income limits this year are $37,600 for single individual and $45,800 for a married couple. This includes all income, taxable and non-taxable including Social Security benefits.
Applications are available on the Town Assessor's page of the Town of Newington website. Please include a copy of your 1099 Social Security statement and a copy of your 2020 income tax return with the application.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Governor has issued an Executive Order which states that all applicants that are currently receiving tax relief benefits DO NOT NEED TO RE-FILE FOR THEIR BENEFIT THIS YEAR.
The Assessor's office will simply use the existing income that they have on file and roll that figure forward for 2021. Only new applicants that are not presently on this program will need to file a new application.
We will process the applications through the mail as long as all requirements are met. If you have any questions please contact us at (860) 665-8530.
