[ARCHIVED] SNAP Benefits delayed & reduced: Possible Resources

Two hands reaching out

Reportedly 2760 individuals in Newington will not receive SNAP benefits starting November 1, 2025 until the Federal government processes benefits at a reduced amount. It is unclear how long this may take. The Town of Newington is closely following this situation and will report updates as they are received and confirmed. There may be additional resources through the State of CT and CT Foodshare and we will post updates on these possible resources as they become available.  The Newington Human Services Department has received numerous donations through the generosity of this community. If you are negatively impacted by this pause in SNAP benefits please contact Newington Human Services at 860-665-8590 to schedule a brief appointment to be screened for possible assistance. You may also reach out via this link https://www.newingtonct.gov/FormCenter/Contact-Us-4/Contact-UsHuman-Services-65 . Assistance will be in the form of pre-packed food distribution and/or grocery gift cards. You should plan to bring verification of your Newington address and current confirmation of SNAP benefit amount. (Staff can assist in obtaining this SNAP confirmation if you do not have it)  All assistance is funded by donations and we will strive to reduce the negative impact for as many households as possible while donations are available. Newington is a very generous and responsive community and we are hopeful that we can assist as many households as possible.

If you are age 60+ and negatively impacted by the pause in SNAP benefits, there may be additional nutrition options available through the Senior & Disabled Center. 860-665-8778
