About
The Newington Senior and Disabled Center is the first in the State of Connecticut to be nationally accredited.
We are Newington’s premier community resource for mature adults, recognized for our expertise in aging, innovative, engaging programs, professional services and welcoming environment.
The mission of the Newington Senior and Disabled Center is to improve the well-being of older adults and adults with disabilities in the Town of Newington.
Well-being is defined broadly and is unique to each person. We identify eight inter-related dimensions to frame our efforts to support improvement and to measure our impact.
Physical: Meeting the need for physical activity, healthy foods and sleep, preventing injury and disease, accessing treatment for acute illness and managing chronic disease.
Social: Developing a sense of connection, belonging, and a well-developed support system
Environmental: Good health by occupying pleasant, stimulating environments that support well-being
Financial: Satisfaction with current and future financial situations
Spiritual: Expanding our sense of purpose and meaning in life
Purpose: Personal satisfaction and enrichment from one’s work
Emotional: Coping effectively with life and creating satisfying relationships
Intellectual: Recognizing creative abilities and finding ways to expand knowledge and skills
Our specially trained, professional staff is assisted by more than 140 volunteers. Working with other Town departments, community agencies, state agencies, service providers and businesses, we provide a wide array of services and programs to more than 3,500 members.
