Youth Diversion Team

The Youth Diversion Team ( formerly known as Juvenile Review Board) is a collaborative effort between Human Services, the Police Department, Newington Public Schools, Juvenile Court, and DCF. The Board typically meets twice a month to provide the community with a confidential means to assist youth who are involved in arrestable behaviors as an alternative to punitive actions such as Juvenile Court.

The Youth Diversion Team uses Restorative Justice practices in an effort to hold youth accountable for his/ her mis-deed , assisting the youth in identifying the negative impact of their actions and developing a plan to restore justice to those specifically impacted by the misdeed and the community as a whole, while supporting the youth in developing a plan to meet their needs going forward with a goal of a positive journey forward in a productive manner.
