Online Events/Programs on our Website or via Zoom
Some events will take place on Zoom and all of the information on how to join an event can be found on our website at www.newingtonct.gov/library. You can view the event on your device or listen to the event by calling in on your phone. Registration is required by calling 860-665-8720. With other events, which are not live and do not require registration, the link will be available from the library’s website.

HelpNow - Brainfuse HelpNow is now available for on demand eLearning for all ages and levels, offering personalized homework help in core subjects (math, reading, writing, science and social studies) including SAT preparation, skill building, and foreign language support. Students will communicate with live online tutors. Sign in with your Newington library card.

Children’s Book Bundles
Let us create a personalized book bundle for your child! Answer some questions online by filling out a special form, located on our Reading Recommendation page. Your librarians will select up to 10 customized book titles for your child.

Storytime for Ones
Mondays, October 3 - 31, 10:15 a.m. (No storytime on October 10)
Stories and songs for children 9 - 24 months, siblings and their caregivers. Registration required.
 
Play For All
Tuesdays, October 4 - 25, 10:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Join us for this program geared for families with young children who have special needs. All are welcome! Registration required. Partnered with Creative Interventions, LLC.

Storytime for Twos
Wednesdays, October 5 - 26, 10:15 a.m.
Stories, songs, and take-home crafts for children 24 months and older, siblings and their caregivers. Registration required.

Storytime for 3 – 5 year olds
Thursdays,  October 6 - 27, 10:15 a.m. 
Stories, songs, and take-home crafts for children ages 3 - 5, without caregivers. Registration required.

Cinderella with pumpkin

Pumpkin Painting with Cinderella
Tuesday, October 4, 6:00 p.m.
Cinderella cordially invites you to attend! Spaces are limited as your seat comes with not just your pumpkin and supplies, but direction from Cinderella herself as you work together to create your perfect pumpkin. There will be singing, music, stories, and more! Kids ages 4 and up can register beginning September 20. Costumes are welcome! Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Kids Yoga
Tuesday, October 11, 4:00 p.m.
For ages 5 - 8. A social class for children that focuses on body awareness, playful poses, engaging games, and simple breathing techniques. Bring your yoga mats/towels/blankets as we explore movement and mindfulness with Michelle Saucier from Tiny Yogi. Registration begins September 27.

Thursday, October 13, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
If you're looking for some scary good fun, you'll have a scream at the Library! Kids of all ages will enjoy making spooktacular crafts to celebrate the spooky season. Registration begins on September 29. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

Cool-ology

Spooky Halloween Science
Tuesday, October 25, 4:00 p.m.
Let’s celebrate this creepy time of the year with some easy experiments and demonstrations that will amaze, entertain, and educate! Cool-ology will be here to share activities that include: Sick Pumpkin, Glow-In-The-Dark Spooky Images, Exploding Ghosts, and Halloween Slime! Children ages 6-11 may register beginning October 11. 

StoryWalk®

StoryWalk®
Our special StoryWalk® is located on the Library Green. Walk together and enjoy a story along the way. Our new story, Fletcher and the Falling Leaves by Julia Rawlinson, will be up in early October. Use #lrwlkids on Instagram so we can see that you visited or scan the QR code to answer a brief survey. 1000 book before kindergarten with reading fox

1000 Books Before Kindergarten
We are excited to share the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading program with our patrons! This self-paced program encourages families to explore the world of books, get prizes, grow as readers, and have fun together. The library is here to cheer you on and connect you and your baby, toddler, or preschooler with books perfect for laughs, cuddles, and building literacy skills. Indoor Challenges
Our department has put together some fun, passive activities for kids to enjoy indoors! Come check out our I-Spy tank and see what you can spot. Challenge yourself with our Fall Scavenger Hunt to see if you can find all the pictures. We hope you enjoy!

Topic Totes
Check out the Children’s Department's Topic Tote collection!  Have a child who loves gardening? Trucks? Bugs? Need some books to encourage potty training or bedtime? Totes with books focused on one topic will be available for circulation. Parents can check out up-to-date topic lists and information on the new Children’s Reading Recommendation webpage.
