Saturday Book Talk His Garden: Conversations with a Serial Killer Saturday, May 11, 1:00 p.m.
In her recent book, His Garden: Conversations with a Serial Killer, the PenCraft Literary Award Winner for Best Non-fiction of 2018, Connecticut author Anne K. Howard examines the murders of seven Connecticut women and their killer, William Howell. Over the course of three years, she met with Howell in person, spoke with him by phone, corresponded through letters, and researched court documents. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Hud (1963) starring Paul Newman, Melvyn Douglas, and Patricia Neal. Winner of 3 Academy Awards, including a best actress Oscar for Patricia Neal. An honest, hard-working Texas rancher has a conflict with his troubled son Hud, who sank into alcoholism after accidentally killing his brother in a car crash.

Newington Library 5K Challenge Road Race Sunday, May 19, 9:00 a.m. at Mill Pond Park
The 23rd running of this event will be held at Mill Pond Park on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. Runners will compete by age category with awards for the winning male and female runners within each division. Walkers are also welcome. Registration forms are available at the library, on the library’s website or you can register online at raceentry.com. Preregistration is $10 for children (12 & under) and $25 per adult. Same day registration is $10 for children (12 & under) and $30 per adult.

Charles Monagan, author and former editor of Connecticut Magazine will give a talk on his latest book Connecticut Icons. This book is a collection of photos, anecdotes and little-known fact about Connecticut – from the hot lobster roll to the Yale Bowl, the USS Nautilus to the Merritt Parkway, and many others. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the men and women who went off to fight for their country and never came home. Author, historian, and Town Crier editor Aaron Elson will talk about three of the more than 400,000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice, and his small role in keeping their memories alive. Aaron is the creator of Oral History Audiobooks, a series of CDs excerpted from more than three decades of interviews with veterans. Registration required.
