Some events will take place on Zoom and all of the information on how to join an event can be found on our website at www.newingtonct.gov/library. You can view the event on your device or listen to the event by calling in on your phone. Registration is required by calling 860-665-8720. With other events, which are not live and do not require registration, the link will be available from the library’s website.

Grab & Go crafts

Each week in we will have crafts ready for pick up! There will be a craft for kids ages 1 - 6 that will coincide with one of our Digital Storytimes. Please note that supplies are limited. Parents may call to register beginning the Monday of that particular week to reserve a craft bag for pickup that week curbside.

HelpNow - Brainfuse HelpNow is now available for on demand eLearning for all ages and levels, offering personalized homework help in core subjects (math, reading, writing, science and social studies) including SAT preparation, skill building, and foreign language support. Warm Your Heart – Craft Kit to Go
Monday, February 1

Kids in grades 1 – 5 can get a craft bag with kindness crafts to make at home. Give away a craft or two to show kindness to someone special. Parents may call to register and arrange for pick up beginning Monday, February 1 and continuing through the month while supplies last.

Sew Simple with Miss Sarah – Virtual
Tuesday, February 2

Join Miss Sarah for a virtual sewing class perfect for beginners and budding young tailors. Together you’ll go through all the steps to create your own hand sewn creations. This time we’ll learn how to make a Valentine’s Day plushie. A video link is available on the Kids event page beginning the day of the program.

Children’s Winter Reading 2021: Reading Rules!
Monday, February 8 – Monday, March 15

Warm up with a good book and join the Children’s Winter Reading Program! Beginning on Monday, February 8, a Winter Reading Log* will be posted on the library’s website that can be printed from home. Once the log is completed, call the Children’s department to claim your reward, which can be picked up curbside. This reading program is for all children up to 6th grade. Please note that all children’s programs will be done virtually through our website or other media.
*If unable to print a Summer Reading Log from home, please contact the Children’s Department at 860-665-8720.

Zoom Together Storytime – Virtual
Wednesday, February 10 and 24, 10:15 a.m.

Join us for an all ages story time.  We’ll enjoy a story (or two) and a song (or two) to welcome in the morning. Registration required. An email with the Zoom link will be sent out prior to the event.

Sing Me A Fairy Tale - Virtual
Tuesday, February 16, 11:00 a.m.

Join Michele Urban from My Music Room for this hilarious retelling of The Three Little Pigs. Sing, dance, and laugh with fun silly songs that will help build your musical skills! Registration required. An email with the Zoom link will be sent out prior to the event.

Turning Pages – Virtual
Wednesday, February 17, 11:00 a.m.

For ages 3 – 6. Join a dance professional from Ballet Theatre Company for a movement-focused storytelling experience! Stories will come to life in ways that engage the whole body. Come on a storybook adventure featuring Sleeping Beauty this month! Registration required. An email with the Zoom link will be sent out prior to the event.

Tuesday, February 23

Scientists are welcome to watch the Virtual Science Experiments with Ms. Joanne. Each experiment will use basic supplies, which you may even have in your kitchen. After watching enjoy doing the experiments on your own! A video link and supply list will be available on the Kids events page.

Topic Totes

The Children’s Department is proud to debut their Topic Tote collection!  Have a child who loves Frozen? Trucks? Bugs? Need some books to encourage potty training or bedtime? Totes with books focused on one topic will be available for circulation. Parents can check out up-to-date topic lists and information on the new Children’s Reading Recommendation webpage.
