JULY TAXES ARE DUE. The Town of Newington has extended the normal grace-period from 30 days to 90 days due to the Corona-19 Virus for Real Estate, Personal Property, and Motor Vehicle taxes for taxpayers with the last day to pay without penalty being October 1, 2020. On October 2nd, interest will be restored at the regular rate of 1.5% per month and is calculated based on the July 1st due date.
LANDLORDS ARE AN EXCEPTION per Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 7-S, Section 6 that any taxpayer who rents or leases property to tenants or lessees had to have completed an application with the Tax Collector by June 30th to be able to qualify for the deferment. Otherwise the regular 30-day grace-period applies which is August 3rd. Banks, Escrow Companies and Mortgage Holders also have until August 3rd to pay without penalty.
For everyone’s safety, the Town Hall is closed to the public. For your convenience, a payment drop-box has been installed in the rear parking lot in an island across from the Police Department. Please include a self-addressed stamped-envelope when paying if you would like a receipt. Tax Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. If you did not receive a tax bill please go to www.newingtonct.gov (On-Line Services) Tax Payment information where you can look up and/or pay your taxes. If you received a tax bill in error, contact the Tax Office at 860-665-8540. If you received the tax bill and your mortgage company should pay, please forward the tax bill along to them.
