WHAT IS CONGREGATE LUNCH?  Congregate lunch is a daily hot meal served in the Senior Center Cafeteria each Monday - Friday.  Seating begins at 11:45 a.m. and lunch is served at noon.  The nutritionally balanced meals are created in accordance with the federal nutrition program and include a hot main course, fruit and vegetable, dairy and juice and sometimes even a dessert!  

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?  DO I HAVE TO FILL OUT A FORM?  Anyone age 60+ is eligible!  There are no residency requirements.  All participants (including current and returning participants) must fill out a Form 5  prior to starting.  The Form 5 is a requirement of the Federal Nutrition Program - the program won’t be funded if we don’t  comply with the necessary paperwork. HOW DO I REGISTER? Participants may register to participate in as few or as many lunches as desired each month.  Reservations must be made prior to 11:45 a.m. the day before each lunch (or on Friday for Monday’s lunch).  You may register for up to one-week’s worth of lunches at a time.  To register for future lunches, call the office at 860-665-8778 or register for upcoming lunches in person at the Center.  Monthly menus are provided.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? There is a $3.00 per meal suggested donation to help the Community Renewal Team defray costs.  Donations are voluntary and anonymous.  

DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION?  Dial-A-Ride transportation to and from lunch is available upon request for Newington residents.  To become a Dial-A-Ride member stop by or call the main office at 860-665-8778.  Dial-A-Ride tickets are $8.40 for 12 round-trip rides.

IS GRAB-AND-GO LUNCH CONTINUING? Unfortunately, the Grab-and-Go lunch program is ending on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.  The Community Renewal Team only allows senior centers to offer in-person or grab-and-go lunches, not both.  If you have health or transportation concerns that would make it difficult to attend in-person lunches, please contact Teri Snyder at 860-665-8778 to discuss your options. 

ARE THERE COVID RESTRICTIONS? - We are required to follow all COVID protocols as determined by the Town of Newington, Central CT Health District and the Community Renewal Team and we’re committed to operating safely.  Please stay home if you are experiencing any COVID symptoms.
