On behalf of the men and women of the Newington Police Department, I want to welcome you to our portion of the Town of Newington website. We have created this web page as part of our continuing effort to serve the community of Newington.
MISSION STATEMENT To Protect and Serve EXPLANATION Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Police, this unit includes long term planning for the department, budgetary preparation and implementation, purchasing, payroll, grants, police recruitment and hiring, labor issues, responding to community and citizens’ needs or complaints, interdepartmental coordination, participating and assisting in regional, state and federal law enforcement initiatives, as well as coordination of building maintenance and upkeep. HIGHLIGHTS OF FY 2007-2008 OPERATION - The division was active with state and regional homeland security efforts. The SWAT unit and the other seven regional units were enhanced with new equipment and are responsible to back up local police critical incident responses.
- Involved in the completion of an enhanced Regional Access Frequency System (RAFS) that allows interoperability with all law enforcement agencies in the Capitol Region and with the Connecticut State Police.
- Continued to meet with the Mid-State Chiefs to enhance traffic enforcement, narcotics enforcement, and regional cooperation.
- Continued to work on completion of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the Town.
- Continued to seek grant funding at the State and Federal level for the EOC, the SWAT unit, DUI enforcement, equipment, communication system, and the Red Light Enforcement Program.
OBJECTIVES - To continue to improve the police operation and supply improved service to the community.
- To enhance community service efforts to improve the quality of life for Newington citizens.
- To continue to seek grant funding for traffic enforcement and other law enforcement projects.
- To continue to work with other law enforcement agencies to enhance regional cooperation.
- To maintain our effort to reduce accidents town wide and through education and enforcement efforts.
