Borrowing Policies

Loan Periods

Most library materials may be checked out of the library for a period of three weeks, with some exceptions.

The loan period for museum passes varies from 1-3 days.
Entertainment videos, DVDs and game CD-ROMs circulate for 7 days.

There is a limit of 8 DVDs per family per day.

DVDs borrowed at Lucy Robbins Welles Library may be returned to any Connecticut public library .

All items and museum passes may be renewed once if no one is on the waiting list. Renewals may be placed on the phoneonline or in person.

RENTAL books have now become RAPIDREAD books. They have a 7-day loan period, no charge. After that, they have a $1.00 per day fine, with a maximum of $5.00. These books are not renewable nor can you put them on reserve.

Holds
Patrons may be put on the waiting list for any item that the library owns but which is currently checked out. Patrons may request that such "holds" be placed by the Reference Desk staff either in person or on the phone. Patrons may also place their own holds directly into the system by using library's catalog. Holds are limited to three items per day.

This video tutorial describes how to place a hold in the library's catalog.  If you need more help, please ask a librarian.

Interlibrary Loans and Returns
Patrons may ask for interlibrary loans of items that are not available in the library's collection but can be located in another area library or through the library catalog on this website. Also, any item borrowed from any public library in the state of Connecticut may be returned to any other public library in the state.

To request an interlibrary loan call (860) 665-8700 or email us with your Interlibrary Loan request. Please include author and title with your request.
