All of the following job seeking programs are sponsored by Friends of the Library.

The programs begin at 7 p.m. If you want to arrive early to meet your fellow job seekers and to commiserate and support one another, the room will be open. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to talk and enjoy some light refreshments.

Network Your Way to Your Next Job

Networking still remains the best way to find a job, but are you leveraging all the tools available to job seekers today to reach a decision maker? More than 80% of hiring managers and recruiters are Googling job seekers... LinkedIn is used by at least 50% of these people in vetting candidates before a call to interview. Does your online identity position you optimally? Or are you disqualified before even getting the call? Jan Melnik, M.A., will present a fast-paced program on the right way to use today's social media tools to best advantage when job seeking. She has been coaching clients in job search from Absolute Advantage, her private practice in Durham, for more than 20 years. She is a Master Resume Writer, Credentialed Career Manager, and Certified Professional Resume Writer. The author of "Executive's Pocket Guide to ROI Resumes and Job Search," Jan is the career expert on NBC and MoneyWise radio.

 

 

Interviewing Skills Workshop
Monday, May 7, 6:30 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice interview techniques and answer questions to show how you will add value to the employer. You will explore how to react to difficult questions and respond with positive answers. You will learn how to interject certain statements during the interview that will send a clear message that you are the ideal candidate to be selected for the job. Business professional, Jeff Thierfeld, will be the presenter.
