Town Landfill Use & Regulations
REGULATIONS GOVERNING USE OF THE TOWN’S VEGETATION DISPOSAL AREA

The Town’s Vegetation Disposal Area is located on Main Street just south of Churchill Park. The vegetation disposal area is restricted to use by Newington residents (excluding those in apartment and condominium complexes) and town government operations, unless approved in writing by the Town Manager. The following regulations apply to all users of this facility.

1. Residents seeking to disposal of yard vegetative waste at the above site must display a valid disposal license. Applications and licenses are available (at no cost) from the Newington Highway Department, 281 Milk Lane.

RESIDENTIAL LICENSE disposal restricted to yard vegetative waste generated from the applicant’s personal residence only; and resident owns the vehicle to be used for disposal.

such license must be affixed to driver’s side of the vehicle windshield.
TEMPORARY - LICENSE disposal restricted to yard vegetative waste generated from applicant’s personal residence only; and resident does not own the vehicle to be used for disposal. Standard vehicle size restricted to pick-up truck, unless approved in writing by Town Manager.

- Applicant must show proof of residency at the time such license is applied for.
Such license must be presented to the Landfill Attendant at time of disposal.
**NOTE: Temporary license is valid for one weekend only and may include restrictions on the number of loads allowed

2. Only yard vegetation waste generated from the resident’s own property shall be disposed of at the site. Anyone found to be disposing of material from other sources will be subject to suspension of their disposal license(s) in accordance with town ordinance (Section 8-39).

3. Vegetation material acceptable for disposal at the facility is limited to brush, logs, leaves, shrubs, grass, etc.

4. Items specifically prohibited for disposal in the landfill include glass, plastic, rubber, metal, or any wood debris from construction, remodeling or demolition of structures. Also excluded is cement, asphalt, concrete, stone rubble, or other masonry rubble.

5. The hours of operation of the disposal facility are as follows:

Days & Hours Open January-March April-December
Saturday: 9am-5pm 9am-5pm
Sunday: Closed 9am-5pm
6. All users of this disposal facility must follow the directives of the attendant(s) at the site and comply with these regulations; failure to do so may result in suspension of their disposal license.

7. Any person having a complaint, questions, or problem concerning the operation of the vegetation disposal facility should direct such inquires to the Sanitation Division (667-5874).
